With land prices lower than surrounding downtowns and the new one-seat ride putting Plainfield in easy reach of New York City, it's no wonder we're booming with construction. The city has approved a total of 389 units downtown and counting! With 126 units completed, 60 under construction right now and 203 units approved and ready for construction, the city is working hard to quickly approve units and expects good quality development. Our Planning Board and Planning Division is friendly toward developments that follow the city's Master Plan, Land Use Ordinance, and Transit Oriented Development (TOD) philosophy.

Be sure to check out our Growth Maps to find the most recent information on all approved developments and their construction status below. The maps are updated twice per year in June and December. Visit the City's Economic Development Office online for more information on starting a new project in our city.
